Association Leadership Awards

Ceo Update

LAI LIVE works with CEO Update each year to produce the association sector’s most prestigious award program, The Association Leadership Awards. The objectives for the show every year are for the presentations to be fast-paced, include enjoyable content, and deliver a program that showcases the association community and creates anticipation for the next years’ event.

The Challenge

The objectives for the show every year are for the presentations to be fast-paced, include enjoyable content, and deliver a program that showcases the association community and creates anticipation for the next years’ event. In 2016, CEO Update was looking for a fresh approach to achieving these objectives and focus the program on highlighting the best of the association community.

The Solution

With that in mind, we set to work on theming the event, borrowing techniques from entertainment outlets and popular social media platforms. From the VIP reception through the full awards program, we designed elements for the audience to participate in the show and involve multiple personalities from the association sector.

In the reception areas we created interactive boards for guests to vote on the issue the most concerns them for the following year, as well as an emoji creation station to describe how they were feeling about the upcoming 2016 election. We created a snapchat filter, a twitter handle, and a Facebook Live streaming program for the attendees to interact with throughout the reception.

As the awards opened, the audience was treated to a light-hearted animated video to kick off the program, played on a wide edge-blend screen. This wide screen spanned across three distinct stages, which were used to highlight different players in the program:

  1. The emcees for the event: two well-respected association CEOs who moved the program forward with comedy, anecdotes, and personality.
  2. Key stakeholders of CEO Update who welcomed the audience, made light-house-keeping remarks, and described the nomination process for the awards
  3. The award recipients who were interviewed by members of the association community who knew them very well.

Throughout the event, audience members were encouraged to participate in polling questions using sli.do technology to aggregate answers in real-time on the wide screen. The emcees of the event used these answers to banter with the audience and introduce new segments of the program.

Each award winner was brought to the stage with a “walk and talk” video in the style of Vogue’s 73 Questions series that treated the audience to fun insights into the winners’ personalities. The award recipients were then asked 5 questions that were designed to elicit insightful and genuine responses that the audience could relate to and possibly apply to their own organizations.

Concluding the show was an unexpected blooper reel from the making of the winner “walk and talk” videos that sent the guests home with a laugh. It was a fun awards program to produce and generated a lot of positive feedback.
