Innovative Solutions for A Growing Audience at MINExpo

National Mining Association

Held only once every four years, LAI spent a week in the Las Vegas Convention Center producing the National Mining Association’s 2024 MINExpo. 45,000 international attendees visited multiple tradeshow floors, attended educational sessions, general sessions and events over the course of four days.

From custom stage designs to seamless live broadcasts, we helped elevated every aspect of the event, ensuring it left a lasting impression on all who attended.

Enhanced Staging with Conference Growth

This year LAI Live was initially brought in to produce the newly developed Speaker Series Sessions, consisting of seven general sessions featuring talent such as Mike Rowe, Kevin O’Leary, Kelly Monahan, Jon Dorenbos and industry professionals.

As we worked through programming and logistics, it was evident the attendance was growing significantly more quickly than anticipated, with an increase of 24,000 attendees from the previous conference.

With that in mind, LAI reworked the scenic from a smaller stage set consisting of 16:9 projection screens to larger, flashier set designed to provide a ‘wow factor’ as people walked into the room. The new stage set consisted of over 50’ of LED that featured custom videos developed by the LAI Video team, designed to stretch from end to end. The stage included custom plugs to give it a unique shape and was lined with LED tubes.

Additionally, an overflow room was established to ensure attendees would have the opportunity to see these high-level speakers. Just across the hall, a room was set for 1,200 people, with the programming being fed directly to the space.

NMA TV LED Studio Broadcast

This year, NMA launched their first ever NMA TV, a studio in the West Atrium where staff hosted interviews throughout the week.

The LAI Video team produced the content and managed the stream while LAI Live provided the LED wall built into the GES provided structure, which showcased the video feed.

We also provided custom audio. With concerns around the external audio being picked up on the feed, the Live team brought in directional speakers designed to create a “cone.” These speakers can keep audio to a contained radius. Once an attendee crosses that radius, the audio can’t be heard but once back in, it’s loud and clear. The volume and radius are both adjustable, something worth considering for breakout sessions that require headphones

Additionally, we picked up the captioned stream and projected it on a wall in the Central Atrium, giving attendees the opportunity to view the high-level interviews while registering, wandering the show floor and checking out SWAG. The feed was also sent to a large overhead venue LED wall.

LED Exhibits

Just a couple weeks before the conference, LAI was asked to provide even more LED for an exhibit booth in the LVCC North Hall that had programming during the opening reception. Built into a GES constructed booth, it featured graphics and videos throughout the week.

Special Events & Breakout Meetings

Another late addition to the scope of work was providing support for the ribbon cutting, held outside on the terrace with the sphere as a backdrop. The video team filmed the ceremony, while Live picked up the stream and fed it to multiple locations throughout the convention center.

Audio visual and speaker management services were also provided for the Press Room and breakouts. We brought in equipment for the high-level Board of Governors meeting that included 25 push-to-talk mics, sound systems and rotating presentations via projection for c-suite attendees and guest speakers.

An LAI Team Effort

To support a conference this large, all three lines of service worked closely together to execute a fast-paced conference full of firsts. Leading Authorities Speakers took the stage and were interviewed in the NMA TV. LAI Video was all over the convention center, managing the NMA TV, streaming, catching b-roll and creating videos overnight. The LAI Live team went from two producers to four in order to consecutively cover the West, North and Central Halls. Eight audio visual leads flew in to ensure all technology functioned at its best.

A one stop shop, all three Leading Authorities teams worked hand-in-hand, successfully executing a large international conference.
