Evolving the Experience: How We Brought the IFA Convention Theme to Life
Every year, the IFA Convention sets the tone for where franchising is headed next. This year’s theme, Evolve, wasn’t just a message, it was guidance for navigating the future of business.
We didn’t just support the theme. We built an experience that embodied it.
Reinventing the Opening Moment
First impressions matter. Instead of a traditional General Session kickoff, we scripted the opening as a late-night talk show opening monologue. Think high-energy walk-ons, VO’s in the style of an announcer, well-timed sound effects, and humor tailored specifically to the franchise community. The result was an immediate shift in tone that felt fresh, unexpected, and engaging. It signaled to the audience right away that this year was going to be different.
Transforming the State of the Association
We took one of the most anticipated but often traditional moments of the event and gave it a bold evolution.
The CEO and Board Chair did not just present updates. They delivered a Weekend Update–style segment, complete with: A custom news desk, dynamic graphics blending information and humor, and a cadence that felt more like broadcast than boardroom
The outcome was both informative and entertaining, proving that substance and style do not have to compete.
Evolving the Environment
Scenic: We extended the idea of evolution into the scenic design. A fully LED environment ensured clarity of content from every angle and helped guarantee a strong viewing experience for an audience of more than 3,000. Curved, ground-supported outboard screens extended into the audience, increasing immersion while also reducing rigging support needs.
Lighting: To tie the space back to the visual identity, LED lighting strips were integrated into the backdrop in patterns inspired by the graphics package. As the program progressed, these strips shifted color, subtly reinforcing the theme of evolution in real time.
Seating: That same philosophy carried into the audience experience by creating a flexible, choice-driven environment with mixed theater seating, banquet rounds, and high boys throughout the space, and soft seating anchoring the front rows. Attendees could choose how they wanted to engage, whether that meant a more traditional viewing experience or a relaxed, lounge-style seat closer to the stage.
Designing Content That Builds Across the Week
To reinforce the daily themes of Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Evolution, we created a system that allowed content to grow and connect.
Key Takeaways for Every Speaker: Each presentation was distilled into clear, visual insights that reinforced the day’s theme and made content more digestible and memorable. Keynote speakers were asked to “fill-in the blank” with their advice to questions on growth, leadership, innovation and more. As each speaker wrapped their presentation, we displayed their responses. With each screen carrying it’s own graphic, the audience was provided with wall-to-wall visual messaging.
An Evolving Word Cloud: At the end of each day, we captured the most impactful ideas and audience takeaways into a word cloud that expanded throughout the week. By the final day, it became a living summary of the entire convention and a visual representation of collective learning.
Evolving the Visual Language: The theme extended beyond content into the full visual experience. With daily color schemes, we created distinct identities for each theme while maintaining a cohesive system
Building Momentum Through Video
To further reinforce the theme, LAI Video developed a series of quick, multi-screen transitions that kept the energy high and the story moving.
The opening sequence paired high-energy music and fast-paced facts about evolving as a franchise member, immediately setting the tone for the experience ahead. Throughout the program, transitions showcased the evolution of the IFA Convention logo over the years, using the full canvas of screens to create movement and continuity between segments.

Great event production does not just look different. It thinks differently.
By reimagining familiar formats, connecting content across days, and designing with intention, we did not just support the theme of Evolve. We made the audience feel it in real time.
