5 Best Practices of Show Graphics

wsc

When it comes to brainstorming ways to make an impact on your audience, show graphics usually fall somewhere towards the bottom of the list. But in reality, show graphics can play a big role in creating a professional, cohesive, and polished feel at your event. Plus they reinforce your branding in a major way.

If you’re ready to rethink show and presentation graphics at your next event, here are five proven best practices to follow:

  1. Use A Big, Bold Design

Our first piece of advice for creating memorable graphics: Have fun with color! An ideal template uses just two or three complimentary colors for background and fonts. Choose something that will grab the attention of your audience as they’re walking in, and stay with them after they’ve left.

  2. Make Sure Your Fonts Are Big Enough

Think about the person who came in late and is sitting all the way in the back of room on a pull-up chair. Then you’ll see why we start at a 20-point font and only go up from there. Looking for more recommendations? Use a clean, easy-to-read, bolded font. Leave the fancy fonts for printed materials.

  3. Stick With The Facts

Presentation graphics should be used only to reinforce a main talking point. Use short phrases instead of sentences and be careful to not share too much information on one slide.

  4. When It Comes To Charts…

Don’t use them. Unless you must. The plain truth is that charts are typically very difficult for audience members to follow along with. If you or your speaker insists on using one, it’s typically best to recreate it from scratch, deleting extraneous information and drawing focus only to the key points. You can also always use a hand-out or send a follow-up email with a more detailed chart after the presentation.

  5. Consistency Is Key

Nine times out of ten, vetted and professional keynote speakers—like the ones top speakers bureaus including Leading Authorities speakers bureau represent—will bring their own branded materials. For the remainder of your presenters, provide a presentation template (using the tips above as guidelines, of course) that will keep your event brand front and center. Bonus! This will also ensure all speaker presentations are the correct ratio for your video screens.
